Prometheus collects and stores time-series metrics — CPU, request rates, queue depth, custom app counters — by scraping HTTP endpoints on a schedule. You query with PromQL and visualize in Grafana dashboards. Common issues include scrape targets down, mislabeled metrics, alert noise, and disk filling from high cardinality.
